A regional padel tournament organised by Broadway Insurance Partners has raised £30,000 for The Prince’s Trust.
The inaugural event was held at The Padel Club in Wilmslow and saw 16 teams vying to become North West champions.
Broadway Chief Executive, Daniel Lloyd-John said that he was “delighted’ to have helped the tournament take place.
“It was a superb day of competition involving players from right across the region and all for an incredible cause.
“Even though we had winners on the day, the focus was very much securing an even greater victory by helping The Prince’s Trust further its wonderful work.
“I’m proud that we could play a part in getting the championship up and running. Together with everyone who took part, we are already looking forward to next year’s event.”
This year’s title was claimed by a team made up Jon Worsnop from bespoke joinery specialists d3 design and display and Scott Needham, who is Rugby Manager at Sale Sharks.
The Prince’s Trust was founded in 1976 by the then Prince of Wales to help disadvantaged young people across the UK by providing them with training and support to pursue careers or launch their own businesses.
The Trust has so far assisted more than one million young people to date and, in the last five years, three-quarters of those helped have moved into work, education or training.
It has also announced that, following its royal founder’s accession to the throne, it is to be renamed The King’s Trust, reflecting King Charles’ “continued dedication to our work”.
Karen Webster, the Head of Philanthropy (North) at The Prince’s Trust, was full of praise for the first North West padel tournament, which was sponsored by a number of organisations across the region, including LDC, Aston Martin Manchester and Boodles.
“Thanks to everyone who contributed to make the event a huge success.
“All the proceeds from the event will help young people overcome barriers to opportunity, giving them the chance of a brighter future.”
