The founder of one of the country’s newest and most dynamic names in insurance broking has been elected to represent industry peers across Greater Manchester.

Daniel Lloyd-John, the Chief Executive of Broadway Insurance Brokers, will serve as chairman of the area’s regional committee of the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) for 12 months.

The Manchester committee is one of the largest and longest-standing of the 11 such BIBA groups across the UK.

Mr Lloyd-John said that his election was an “honour” and came at a pivotal moment for the insurance industry.

“Manchester is the second largest financial services market in the country, with insurance playing a significant role. Being chosen to lead BIBA’s committee in the region is, therefore, a real privilege.

“As we have seen in in the decades since BIBA was founded, brokers offer tremendous support to business and private clients alike, helping them understand the importance of managing risk and then providing clear guidance about how best to do so.

“That is especially critical at the moment as people continue the process of responding to and moving from the pandemic.

“BIBA also has an instrumental role in representing the interests of independent risk advisory and insurance broking businesses in the North West and much further afield, giving them with a voice on the issues which affect them.

“The focus is, of course, not just on the year ahead but on trying to ensure that the work of BIBA in the region remains vibrant and vital.

“That work is already well underway, partially through outreach to schools and colleges across Greater Manchester to increase the number of young men and women in the area who view insurance broking as a thoroughly attractive career.”

BIBA has been the UK’s leading general insurance intermediary organisation since its formation in 1977 and represents more than 1,800 regulated firms that collectively employ more than 100,000 staff.

In addition to focusing on the needs and requirements of its membership and their customers, including the upkeep and maintenance of industry standards, BIBA provides a voice for industry-advising members, the government, the regulator, consumer bodies and other stakeholders about key insurance issues.

Mr Lloyd-John’s election comes just weeks after Altrincham-based Broadway revealed that the value of corporate and private assets for which it arranges cover has almost doubled in the last six months to nearly £1 billion despite only opening its doors 18 months ago.

He has also described how the firm is on course to generate more than £4.5 million in Gross Written Premiums (GWPs) during the current financial year – three times the amount for the previous 12 months.

Broadway provides risk management support to a companies involved in some of the most challenging economic sectors, including energy and logistics, as well as some the North West’s richest individuals.

Earlier this year, it was named among the country’s top insurance advisers in a ranking compiled by the high net worth magazine Spear’s.
